Obama weekend

Have arranged to do a fair bit of canvassing and phone banking in Virginia this weekend, the last one before the election. All this activity is focused on GOTV (Get Out The Vote), making sure that we contact as many people as possible in the battleground States, and of course, Virginia is one of them. Fortunately it's not too far from where we are in Maryland. By the way, the Barack Obama website is hugely efficient, you can find events to go to, donate money on it, create your own events for others to come to, make friends, send emails, track your own activity, almost bake cakes on it!

On election night, 4 November, we'll be at Busboys & Poets at 14th & V Streets (check out the website) in DC, to watch progress and have great food and lots of drinks! The owner, Andy Shallal, was at one point a board member at Imagination Stage, and he and his wife Marjanne and I have become friendly. That's all for this post, will try and put more on when there's anything of interest to report! AFTER 4 November...

Bonnie and I went to see the Capitol Steps last night at the Ronald Reagan building in DC. Very funny. Adela must see them.

Jerry is not doing so well. I'm trying to get out and about, but it's mostly on my own. Better to be alone than with the wrong people, as they say (actually a rough translation of the more succinct Spanish "Mejor sola que mal acompaƱada"). He'll be going into permanent care in a nearby facility some time in January. I've been scanning lots of employment sites for possible work once that happens. However, with the current economic turndown already taking effect, "it don't look optimistic, people!"

DC is acquiring its autumnal coat, shedding leaves like fury with a tempestuous array of magenta, gold and green as its remaining foliage. Pretty but getting colder.

My hip has suffered mildly from an attack of the Dancing Dervishes last Saturday, at Bonnie's Gala event at Imagination Stage. There were only four or five of us indulging, but I felt terrific to be able to dance again. Of course I reaped the 'reward' of a degree of pain that still twinges annoyingly a week later. My physiotherapist cluck-clucked at me but understands.

I feel quite awed at Robin's blog, and can't think why I set this one up, since nothing that I can conceivaby write about comes close to what he and Rayhan are confronting. OK, well, there's the Election here in 10 days but, apart from that, what? We're on tenterhooks here not surprisingly, feeling it's oh so possible, but what if it all goes pear-shaped and Barack doesn't get the votes he needs. Pins and needles stuff. Do comment if you feel like it.
